A massive thank you to all of our committee, all of our coaches, and to our COVID Officer Vicki Prowle who have all been working so hard in the back ground to ensure our children have been able to return safely to their football this season.
It has been a challenge to ensure a small club such as ours can provide a playing environment as safe as possible for our own players, parents and supporters, match officials, and also visiting teams. There has been an enormous amount of information and guidelines to work through and the set-up we have developed appears to be working very well.
We also wanted to thank all of the players and parents who have been so understanding, and have helped massively by listening to our requests, and following the guidelines we have developed.
Our committee and COVID Officer have been working extremely hard with the FA to develop our COVID-19 strategy.
Along with the FA and many other clubs, we have developed a Code of Behaviour which we expect our Coaches, Players, Parents, and Supporters to follow.
Following guidance from the FA and the UK government, we have also undertaken an extensive risk assessment which will be continuously monitored.
For further information, please visit our Club Policies and Codes section of our website, or alternatively you can download our documents here directly.
Over the last season, all of our Ashwell Accies teams have been donating their old kit for re-cycling to KitAid.
KitAid is a charity that recycles your once loved football kit and distributes to underprivileged children and adults in some of the world’s poorest countries.
So soon, we may have an Accies team in other part of the world hopefully winning games in their Ashwell Accies shirts.
Following the FA announcement yesterday that Competitive match play is permitted from August, our Under 12’s were excited to be our first team to run a training session with a 5 aside game
Lovely to see them out playing, some definite puffing going on, but smiles from all.
Our Under 12 team coaches have worked extremely hard to develop a training plan that has enabled training to start again in a very limited format.
Strict distancing rules, numbered equipment, and non contact drills, but the children were grateful for the opportunity to kick a ball again, and all worked extremely hard. Great to be out in the fresh air with their team mates again.
Unfortunately due to the current COVID-19 situation we are now postponing all training and matches with immediate effect.
This decision has been made with advice from the FA and
government which is for the safety of players, coaches, parents and others.
We have done our best to try and continue running as normal for as long as possible, however with more actions being put into place, now is the time where we as a club have to stop but still work together in listening to advice/instructions from the government to try and overcome this pandemic.
the FA said; We have issued a further update regarding the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on football in England.
Following the Government’s announcement today, for people to avoid social contact and gatherings where possible, we are now advising that all grassroots football in England is postponed for the foreseeable future.
Throughout this period, we have taken Government advice with the priority being the health and wellbeing of all. We will continue to work closely with the grassroots game during this time.
We are in regular communication with the Government and the situation within English football at all levels remains under regular review. Further updates will follow as needed.

Ashwell Academicals Under 7’s team present a framed shirt to George Dorrington of Days Bakery
We are delighted to announce that Days Bakery have chosen to sponsor our Under 7’s team for our first year in the Royston League.
Days Bakery are synonymous with Ashwell, and have been part of our village life for many years, so we are thrilled they will be supporting one of our Ashwell Academicals village teams.
Our under 7’s are now looking extremely smart in their football strip, and the boys and girls have been wearing their kit with an enormous amount of pride.
The Under 7’s coaches said “Thanks to Days Bakery’s sponsorship we now have a full kit for the team, making them feel part of the club and excited to take to the pitch.”
“On behalf of all the players, supporters, and coaches, many thanks to Days Bakery, it is greatly appreciated. For a small village club such as ours, we rely on support from local businesses and organisations to give the boys and girls a chance to play football each week, and it really does make a difference.”
Our under 10’s girls played in a girl’s under 10’s and
11’s 5 a-side tournament. They topped
their table in the group stages against the other under 10’s teams, and then beat
under 11’s teams in the knock-out stages to reach the Cup Final. A fantastic
achievement. Well done!
Congratulations to all our Accies at the 2018/19 Trophy Night
Ashwell Academicals 2018/19 Trophy Night
Despite some very dodgy weather in the run-up to the event, This years Trophy Night was again a massive success. Despite heavy ran all day, the clouds parted and the Sun came out just in time to fire the BBQ up. We heard some fantastic reports about how well our Accies had performed this season, and all the kids had a great time having a kick around with their friends. All players from all year groups received trophies, including some very special trophies such as player’s player, manager’s player, most improved, and Accies Accie. We have all had an amazing season, and it was a perfect way to end on a high.
We also gave our players a chance to donate old kit to be re-used within the club, and pass on to charities who help underprivileged children and adults in some of the world’s poorest countries. Thank you to everyone who brought along boots, shirts, shorts, socks, shin pads, and coats …it was a fantastic response. More news on this to follow.
It was also great to see the effort we all made to recycle our cans, plastic, food, paper, and glass on the night …a great initiative set-up by the Under 16’s players and coach. The Accies Go Green!
Sadly, we also said good-bye to our long serving committee, who without their unwavering hard work and support the club would not be where it is today. However, this also meant we welcomed our new committee who have already been extremely busy getting to grips with their responsibilities, and we look forward to the coming seasons with them.
Thank you to everyone that supported and helped us, and we are all looking forward to an equally fun and successful 2019/20 season.
