Ashwell’s 25 Hour Village Football Challenge

25 hours for 25 seasons! Friday 13th June 5pm to Saturday 14th June 6pm.

Ashwell Accies Youth Football Club are holding a one-off fun village football event on Ashwell Recreation Ground between 5pm on Friday 13th June and 6pm on Saturday 14th June. The event celebrates the 25th Anniversary of our club’s first season, and we need the help of people of all ages in our village to keep some football going on the Rec for 25 hours!

What games are being played?

We want to keep football being played on the Rec for 25 hours, from Friday 5pm to Saturday 6pm. The games will be informal, so they can be for teams of 5 up to 11 players. We will need players to keep at least 1 game going at all times – overnight we will only have one small game going under floodlights, but at busier times we can run multiple games at the same time across different pitches on the Rec. It is not a tournament, it is a fun opportunity for anyone to come and play football at the level you want to.

Who can play?

The event is open to anyone living or working in Ashwell village, as well as current Ashwell Accies and former players in Ashwell Accies’ history. All ages and abilities are welcome. *We need teams to register in advance of the event, to help us to organise the event.

How can I register to play?

Please use this form below to register a team. You will be asked:

  • the name of a team manager,
  • if your team is U18s/over 18s/mixed,
  • if you would like to play other teams or just play in your own group,
  • and what time you would like to play (Yes, we are looking for players to join us at 3am!)

We will contact you to confirm a slot nearer the time, based on pitch availability. Click here to register a team

If you would like to play, but you don’t have a team, please let us know and we will get you into a team before the event. Email Nick at 25thCelebration@AshwellAcademicals.com

What are we raising funds for?

The event is raising funds towards Accies running costs and equipment, including hiring training and match venues. All the squads across the club will benefit from these funds, from U6s to U17s. We will have a bar, tuck shop, barbeque and a raffle at the event – details below.

How can I support the event?

25 Budding new Accies at this weekend’s introductory session

This weekend we held our 2024 football introductory session for children currently in school reception and year 1. Fantastic to see so many boys and girls keen to join for next season’s Under 6’s and Under 7’s Accies. All the kids had so much fun, it was great to see so many smiling faces, and it was lovely to hear such positive feedback from all the parents.

Ashwell Accies Trophy Night 2022

Ashwell Accies Trophy Night 2022

It was amazing to see the club come together for our 2021/22 Trophy Night at the Ashwell Rec last night …the first time in three years following all the disruption due to COVID.

We welcomed lots of new faces, and caught up with some old friends. All the players (nearly 150 children from Ashwell and the surrounding area) loved receiving their Trophies, and a massive amount of fun was had by all.

Thank you to all the committee members who worked so hard to make the event special, to all the coaches for their hard work and support throughout the year and on the night, to all the parents and guardians who support us so well throughout the season, and especially to all the players for making all the hard work worthwhile.

Have a great summer break everyone, enjoy the Women’s Euros over the next few weeks, and we look forward to seeing you all at the start of next season.

Accies Girls get a visit from Charlotte Crisp, Cambridge United first team player

This weekend we held our first ever all girls session. Accies girls from all of our age groups …including Under 6’s up to Under 12’s, got together to train and have some fun.

We were also extremely lucky to have a visit from Charlotte Crisp who is currently a first team player for Cambridge United Women, and is also Head of Youth Development at Cambridge Utd, as well as being the driving force and head coach behind their fast growing Girls development and elite centres.

Charlotte ran some drills for the girls, and then the girls had an opportunity to ask her some quite probing question.

We ended the morning with an enormous water fight …some of us are still drying off.

Thank you to the Under 12’s who helped set-up this session, run some of their own drills, and helped encourage some of our younger players.

Thank you to all the team coaches who were so enthusiastic about helping us promote and run this session, and all their help in the background over the last few weeks.

And thank you to Charlotte for giving her time and making the session so much fun.

Ashwell Academicals 2018/19 Trophy Night

Congratulations to all our Accies at the 2018/19 Trophy Night

Ashwell Academicals 2018/19 Trophy Night

Despite some very dodgy weather in the run-up to the event, This years Trophy Night was again a massive success. Despite heavy ran all day, the clouds parted and the Sun came out just in time to fire the BBQ up. We heard some fantastic reports about how well our Accies had performed this season, and all the kids had a great time having a kick around with their friends. All players from all year groups received trophies, including some very special trophies such as player’s player, manager’s player, most improved, and Accies Accie. We have all had an amazing season, and it was a perfect way to end on a high.

We also gave our players a chance to donate old kit to be re-used within the club, and pass on to charities who help underprivileged children and adults in some of the world’s poorest countries. Thank you to everyone who brought along boots, shirts, shorts, socks, shin pads, and coats …it was a fantastic response. More news on this to follow.

It was also great to see the effort we all made to recycle our cans, plastic, food, paper, and glass on the night …a great initiative set-up by the Under 16’s players and coach. The Accies Go Green!

Sadly, we also said good-bye to our long serving committee, who without their unwavering hard work and support the club would not be where it is today. However, this also meant we welcomed our new committee who have already been extremely busy getting to grips with their responsibilities, and we look forward to the coming seasons with them.

Thank you to everyone that supported and helped us, and we are all looking forward to an equally fun and successful 2019/20 season.

Ashwell Academicals 2017/18 Trophy Night

This years Trophy Night was a massive success.  The weather was perfect, and all the kids had a great time having a kick around with their friends, while everyone else enjoyed the BBQ and Bar.  There was also a set of stocks for the coaches which the children (and some of the parents) enjoyed throwing wet sponges at.  All players from all year groups received medals or trophies, and there were special trophies including players player, managers player, most improved, etc.  We have all had an amazing season, and it was a perfect way to end on a high.
